OK, here goes...

I built my last computer in 2003 and although it is still a stable workhorse for me, it is time to build again. I have spent the past several days researching what has transpired in technology growth over the past six years. I have some idea of what I would like in a processor but when I get to motherboard research I am confused in trying to decipher what I need. So I would like to ask this community for some advice that may save me some precious time and hair pulling as I make decisions on what to order for my build. What I am looking toward for a processor is Intel e5200 or e7200. My intended use for this machine is Photography. I want to be able to run ADOBE CS4 Master. I will not be doing any 3D rendering or video rendering. I do some CAD work also. I do not GAME. From what I understand the video card is less important than an excellent monitor in my system. I have already purchased a IPS monitor, 22" 1680X1050. I would probably like some sort of video card with dual DVI. I want Photoshop to fly.

I am interested in the e5200 or e7200 chip after reading that it is easily overclocked and stable.

I know that I need a P45 motherboard, but am lost as to what I really need. ASUS or GIGABYTE preferred but open to all suggestions.

Bear in mind that I will never have a need to run dual Graphics Cards.

I need advice on RAM too, motherboard must support at least 4G.

I need advice on HDs, (mainly if I need two? due to Photoshop or CS4 scratch filing)

I need advice on Video Card, no gaming here, need dual DVI. I am looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814133274
but this may be overkill for me as well. (I do want to be frugal)

I intend to use a Corsair VX 450 Watt PSU

Case I am looking at is... GIGABYTE AURORA GZ 55CA1

Also, any thoughts on CS4 compatibility with WINDOWS 7 ??? (anyone using CS4 with WINDOWS 7 Beta?)

Thanks in advance for your opinions and suggestions. cmwiggle

I consider your video card a good choice, since you'll be using it mainly to power two displays and not for gaming. Some gaming cards are actually more expensive than what you chose.

Regarding motherboard, what do you think of this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131375

For hard disks, you can consider two of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822136149

Why not get this case instead? It's affordable, but highly-recommended: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811129042

I honestly don't know how compatible CS4 is with 7. Someone else here may though.

You might want to change the graphics card and get a higher performing gaming card.

You can use an old IDE drive for the scratch disk if you have one.

Substitute wd 640 GB drive for the 500 GB drive - a little larger, appreciably faster.

I do not regard LITE-ON DVD drives as particularly reliable. My preferences are either Samsumg or LG.

If you plan on overclocking, you will need a better than stock cooler.

Thanks for your responses, I know these "I want to build a system" questions probably get a little old but I did research through many of them before deciding to post my query.

What I have drawn from the suggestions so far...

My processor selection is adequate for my application.

I only need one hard drive - probably a 640G WD Black SATA - and I have a 160G ide drive for scratch disc.

As for the Video Card suggested link, Thanks! That was exactly the type of info I was searching for on that subject.

Motherboards: I received two suggestions, one ASUS $125, one Gigabyte $90 but the Gbyte board is P43 not P45 and I thought from my research that I need a P45 board. Being that this is the MBoard forum I am hoping for a response with a little more detail into the features that I actually need in a motherboard and I would still like someone to expound on why they may be recommending a particular MBoard for my intended use. This could be the fact that you have actually used the Mboard with good results, or the reasons behind your recommendation. In my research of motherboards I am a noob all over again after not building a system since 2003.

Quick review of my intended use for this system: Photography, CS4 and Dreamweaver. I will not be Gaming. I plan to overclock but not aggressively.

My goal is to not pay for features and capabilities that I will never use, and to build a stable and adequate system for my needs.

I also still need feedback from someone that uses Photoshop CS4 or Master Collection, but please do not say, "buy a Mac"

Thanks to all that has responded, I do appreciate you taking the time to do so. cmwiggle

Trying to decide between these two...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] &x=25&y=30

ASUS or GYGABYTE???

Thanks for all of your other suggestions. CMW

Both are good. I prefer Gigabyte, not open box. Open box is a return from a client.
Should work out fine for you, since you don't have any special needs.

P45 is the best performing chipset for the Core 2 Duo. P43 is a little cheaper, has a few less features.

The Gigabyte board supports faster speeds than the Asus.
