Hi tomshardware readers,
I plan to move from XP to W7 and I have to build a new computer as mine lose a lot of his power switching from XP to W7. ( amd 64 3200+ 2Gb ram )

So I am trying to build a cheap pc and o/c it to have something decent. I'll keep my old graphic card for the moment as by budget is tight.

My plan is to buy the E5200 cpu with 2 or 4Gb ram ( i dont know if the 1066 Mhz is needed or 800Mhz is enough considering the difference in price is not big and I want to OC) .

I don't want to have the best OC possible but instead have something stable and CHEAP.
I don't have the 'upgrade some part later' option in mind, as the next computer will obviously be based on new technology ( i7 or whatever).

I must say that I am a little confused with all those chipset and brand. What would be your suggestion ? P31 (cheapest) P35 P41 P45 ? what brand ?

Keep in mind, if you respond that I don't bother if my cpu is 200mhz faster or not, I just would like the E5200 to be OC at around 3200-3500Ghz.

Sorry for my bad english and thx in advance for reading/responding, if you do so ;)

I recommend a P45, but since you don't plan on upgrading that system. Then go with a P43 board. The high cpu multi of the E5200 should allow you to get to your goal, with a P43 board. I have a EP45-UD3P, and the quality and overclockablity of the UD3x line is very good.

Try something like this: EP43-UD3L $89 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128380

Mmm, is your old GFX card AGP? If so you will have to change it (the 50$ PCI-E cards now probably beat it anyway).

For Vista/Windows 7, go 64 bits and 4GB and don't look back.

Ok, thx for your response ( my graphic card is PCI-e but old 6800gt but i don't need anything better right now.... i played sooo much that I enjoy the break).
Is the P43 better than the P35 ?
