my computer specs..............

amd athlon x2 6000 cpu
asus motherboard m3a78-em
asus 9800gt gpu
550 watt antec psu

i have windows xp installed and have 5 gb of ram but it only registers 3.25 gb in my computer system info. can my computer hold this much ram. if yes how do i go about registering it.

64-bit operating system(like XP64) is what you need. 32-bit system can only adress total of 4gb, and that includes GFX card and other devices memory, so the usable ram is 4gb minus total required for all devices, usually its 3.25gb like in your case.
