24" is nice samsung are good - you should research it

22-24" dell, hp, viewsonic all make good ones
so do other hanns, ausu acer -- can be had for $200-$250
find a sale and research it

when they rank them the difference get lower evey year

there are different typle of lcd even different types of TFC or TFF - maximum pc has article this month on lcd's and explains some of this


22" are 1600x1100
while 19-20 and 24 are 1900x1200

even 1200 lines are good

30" are 2500 these take high end video cards

Avoid anything too cheap. If it looks too good to be true, then it is.

What are you using it for?

As dragonsprayer said, a 22"-24" is a good size, and widescreen is good for watching TV and films. A 4x3 or 5x4 aspect ratio may be more suitable for office work though if you mainly do word processing.
 
24' is where i start, for the 1920x1200 resolution, although 23.8'' is 1920x1080 (full HD for you who want to use it as a TV input too).

I love my Samsung Syncmaster 240T. It cost around $420, as beats most other moniters I ever used.
