As many forum users will note, many people are worried about how viable a gfx card upgrade would be due to the cpu.

Stop worrying.

Many nasty words like bottleneck are used which may alarm the unsure prospective buyer.

There is no need to be as a simple test will generally show if there are gains to be had from your "old" system.

If you are unhappy with performance, turn down the resolution and gfx settings and see if you get better fps, if yes it is likely that your cpu is not the limitation in the system. In this case then getting a better gpu would help give better fps.

Now, to placate some people i will mention that aside from different games using different loads your cpu may not allow your gpu to show it's true power. This is no need to panic though as all that means is either it gives you a component you can carry over to a new system in the long run or as games get more resource intensive the "bottleneck" will shift from the cpu anyway.

Also, remember that alot of people will mention avg and max fps as evidence that bottlenecks exist. The key is minimum fps and also remembering that monitors will also limit how many fps you see, fraps does not tell everything.

Basically, do not ask for help here on whether or not there will be a problem, you are far better doing the simple above test and looking at reviews to get an idea of how thing will perform, truth be told most people on all forums know damn all about your system unless they have first hand experience and most people blow second hand smoke.

Of course if mactronix wishes to come here and beat my arse with a paddle he is entirely welcome, the rest of you can go **** yourselves as you know nowt about the real world unless you agree with me ;).

Apart from the last para, agree totally. Any chance of turning this into a sticky? Not that too many will read it of course.
