I've heard multiple reviews on my board saying that it doesn't play nice with ATI video. Anyone able to confirm/deny this?

MS-7309 - K9N6SGM-V
GeForce 6100 Graphics - specifically nForce 405

I'm trying to upgrade the video, but current market costs have me leaning towards an ATI card over an nVidia card. MSI doesn't have any info on this and I can find reviews that both support and contradict the "nVidia only" problem.

A PCI-E expansion slot will work with Nvidia or ATI. No reason to question ATI incompatibility.

Thanks, it didn't make much sense to me either to question the computability, but thought it would be better to ask than to spend $150-200 on a vid card that at best, didn't work. :) Thanks

I'm not familiar with yoiur MB, but there is a note that some ATI products are not supported. Read here under 'slots'. Not really sure what that means.

Looks like some of the earlier ATI cards beginning with x8 series and back is not supported. I suppose ATI 1x series is supported at 8x. The chipset or voltage considerations causes this, but I'm not really sure about it. So, I don't know what to tell you about a modern 3x or 4x series like a Radeon 4850. I don't think a 4x series ATI card would perform to it's potential being limited to 8x lane.
