I'm trying to put together my own system, using a few leftover parts from my old Dell.
Here's what I got:
Rosewill ATX case
Rosewill PSU: 500w
Motherboard: Asus M3A78-EM
Processor: AMD x2 6000
Memory: 2x1gig 533Mhz (from old Dell)
Graphics card: 9600GT (not installed yet)
hard drive and DVD drive from old dell
monitor: Dell 19" ultrasharp
(I read this forum after I bought the parts, so I know most of your opinions on Rosewill products.)

So I installed the mobo, plugged everything in, turned it on, and no POST. The monitor doesn't come on at all.
I checked the manual for the mobo, and it looks like it only supports memory down to 633Mhz.
Is the reason I don't get post related to that? I've tried several variations, 1 stick, no stick, but no joy.

I did a search here, so I've tried taking the mobo out of the case in case there was a short, but that didn't work either.

I'm kinda new at this, so any suggestions are welcome.

I would think it would post with 533mhz memory, but I could be wrong.
So is it just because the monitor wont come on that you think its not posting?
Maybe your video card isnt seated properly?
Maybe you didnt plug in the power to the video card?
Maybe you didnt plug in the power to the cpu?

My friend had this problem also. It has something to do with your memory because it was made to only be used in Dell computers. Try some different memory and see if that helps. I worked at Dell and they use parts that are built only for them like your DVD drive. Did you do a complete wipe of your HDD?

Yes, I think it's not posting because the monitor isn't coming on. It's plugged in directly to the mobo. I've checked the connection multiple times. I also tried plugging the HD in (power and SATA), but that didn't help.
I did not install the vid card yet. The mobo has built in video.
And as far as power to the CPU, I've plugged in the 24 pin connector. There are 2 4-pin connectors coming out of the PSU, one labeled 4+ and one labeled 4P. They both fit into the 4-pin slot on the mobo.

When I turn the computer on, I get power to the CPU fan, case fans, and case lights. But nothing else.

The memory is aftermarket Kingston. It worked fine in the old Dell.

I did not format the HD. I was hoping I could just plug it in and go.

Read the manual that came with the PSU to see which 4-pin connector is meant to power the CPU. Your computer won't post if the 4-pin CPU power connector isn't plugged in to the motherboard.

Sorry to break it to you, but you're not going to be able to just take the HD out of your Dell and have it work in the new computer.

Shortstuff-
well, I can see why people don't think to highly of Rosewill. There is no manual for the PSU, not even on their website.

I tried both 4-pin connectors, and get the same result- power on, CPU fan spins, but no post.

Did I mention I was new to this? I don't mind formatting the HD - all the data is backed up. At this point I just want to be able to use it. For the record, I've put in bootabale CD's, Windows, the support CD that came with the mobo, but no change.
Any other suggestions?
