Was wondering what "you" would do? I got permission from the wife but am wondering if i should. She said i could get another 24in 1920x1200 monitor or a new video card. Right now i run fairly well in the games i play with crossfirex. COD4, CODWaW, and DAOC.

New Vid card or...
2nd 24in monitor.

atm im getting 18.5k in 3Dmark06 a

2x HD 3870s are very good cards and perform well i would keep them, since u can max out the games u want and dont have problems with them,so why change them ? :)

The cost of any worthwhile upgrade would be considerable as your rig sits very close to the top of Cleeves chart as the 3870X2;

The only cards that could give a boost would be 4870X2 or the new Nvidia 295GTX neither of which would run on your existing PSU.
So, I`d say get the second monitor and keep enjoying your current rig.

I have 2 3870s in CF with an e7200 at 3.8. I score around 17000 on 3dmark06 and i get ~100fps on cod4/5, 150 on source games, 50 on Farcry2, ~30 on crysis warhead. We are in the same boat.

I am going to keep my 2-3870s until drivers dont support it or i cant get FPS i am happy with. Which ever comes first. I would like a single 4870 setup but the price just isnt worth it.

so, if you want a second monitor, get one.

No need unless you going 2 4870's.
I replaced CF 3870's with CF 4870's, but there was a delay on the 2nd card, so ran with 1 1gb 4870 for awhile. It was a tad bit slower than CF 3870's. So as long as you're running x16/x16 stick with the CF 3870's for now...

I used to run with crossfire 3870's and did upgrade to a 4870. I call in an upgrade because in games which crossfire is well supported both setups ran very similarily. In other games, such as WoW which did not have top notch multi GPU support, the 4870 dusts my old corssfire setup. I sold my 2 3870's and threw in a couple extra bucks for the 4870. It depends on the games you play, but the cost may be minimal, and the performance depends on the games you play.

Cheers.

i wouldn't get the second 24 inch'r

how bout this. put the 3870's on amazon for lets say... $65? there will be people who buy it, just post it up as different brands, people don't seem to know that the card can run with seperate brands

and you cut $130 off the price INSTANTLY. With the extra cash, maybe you can get a 1gb model, or a gtx 285 or something

If two 3870s run your games fine now then there is little incentive to upgrade to a single 4870 as it generally won't be too much faster. You may as well go ahead and get that second monitor you want. Besides, there will probably be a refresh of the 4870 pretty soon. By the time your dual 3870s can't play games at the settings you want there will be newer faster cards out that will be a noticeable improvement over the 4870.

Well guys thanks for your opinions. Decided on keeping the 3870's and went with the 24in Acer. I did however get some Zalman VF1000's to cool them so i could do some future OC'ing when the thermal paste settles.

For the young man that mentioned something about me having to ask the wife: Ever heard of intercourse? If i didnt ask...it wouldnt happen for a bit.
Thanks again guys
