Hi I recently started to upgrade my K7S5A and got stuck at the processor. I originally had a Duron (1.3Ghz) and tried switching to a Sempron (2.2Ghz), but my problem is that the computer is reading it as an Athon (1.2Ghz). I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the computer to reconize it's actual speed and type. or atleast higher then 1.3Ghz.
more correctly, historically the Semprons/Durons are neutered Athlons(less cache)
I did some digging and the CPU support list makes no mention of Semprons, the highest numbered Athlon XP mentioned is 2600+, and the most recent bios(the only one mentioned) shows adding support for Duron 1800

So you may be stuck with those speeds, or you could try overclocking/messing with BIOS settings.
The K7S5A maxed out at a FSB of 266, your new CPU most likely has a FSB of 400. That board has no chance to make it there. 333(166 in the bios) may be archived with a software mod from windows(clockgen and others), but it will also crank the pci and agp frequencies and may damage other hardware. If you do try to overclock to at least 333, make sure the chipset is cooled well.
I would suggest you retire the old girl(with its current cpu. use it for a file server or something) and look for a new board second hand that supports FSB 400(200)
