Q6600 or phenom 9650

ummm.... I think you misread the topic. He's not comparing an Intel Q9650... he even mentioned that it was a Phenom 9650 Quad-core which is an AMD processor.. The AMD Phenom 9650 is about $120.

Now back to the topic, the Q6600 (2.4Ghz) is still faster than the AMD Phenom 9650 (2.3Ghz). The Q6600 has more clock cycles per second, but the Phenom 9650 is $70 cheaper. It depends if you want to save money or have more performance.

But if I were to go the AMD route for $195. I would get the AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8GHz Quad-core Processor.

The Q6600 is a better performing CPU

Its oly comparable with the newer P II ...the older Phenoms dont have comparable performance with the Q6600...

The Q6600 ($200) is an old processor, you shouldn't buy it anymore. If you want an Intel processor that is newer, built on a better manufacturing process, have a larger FSB at 1333Mhz, have similar performance, and costs as much as the Q6600 without overclocking. Get the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.5GHz 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor for $189.

I think I'm with gkay, the x3 looks like a very promising product at it's price point. to answer the original question...

Q6600 or phenom 9650? if limited to those 2 chips, Q6600. newer better products are out there for similar prices though...

go for the ohenom II 920 its almopst the same price as the q6600 but performs better and is built on a 45nm process.

Depends on what you want to do.

The Q6600 is a decent OC'er but you don't want to mess with that. The Ph9650 is not a Black Edition so poo on that.

For an inexpensive encoding rig you could snag a Ph9600 combo and a copy of Vegas for around $200 if you have the RAMs.

For an overall bang-for-the-buck rig, yeah, the PhII 720BE with the combos are tuff to top ...
