I am currently in the market for a new Socket AM2+ mobo. To this as of yet undetermined mobo I will add:
AMD Phenom 2 3.0ghz
(2) Geforce 8800GTS 320MB
4GB PC6400 RAM
1 SATA HD
1 DVD-RW
650W Power Supply
Goals: Buy a mobo with at least 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 SLI (true x16 pipeline) slots that can play cutting edge games at medium/high settings with slightly outdated video cards now, then upgrade to a better video card and over clock the Phenom 2 in the future to continue playing cutting edge games.
Motherboard Choices:
1. ASRock K10N780SLIX3-WiFi (Link)
2. ASUS Crosshair II Formula (Link)
3. ASUS M4N82 Deluxe (Link)
Are you replacing you current mobo? or replacing a dead one? If you already have a SLI board i'd replace both your GPU with a single gtx 275. later when you want more performance pick up a second one. If your replacing a dead board then go with the m4n82. Just by reading some of the reviews it seems to be a good overclocker.
If I may,,I suggest that you also look at the GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-UD5P it supports ALL AMD cpu's AND will work just fine with DDR2 ram,and will be there for you when you upgrade your cpu as well..
I intend to replace my current mobo. I would definitely prefer getting a GIGABYTE mobo however with the mobo you linked it looks like I would have to squeeze in my X-Fi card directly next to my second video card. This doesn't allow for any air to get to the second video card. Thats one of the reasons I was looking at the 3 slot video card mobo's because of the spacing available. Now if Gigabyte made a socket AM2+ mobo with 3 slot SLI we'd be in business
