I'm playing on doing a total upgrade, with i7, x58, ddr3 etc etc. I play a lot of fps games like fallout3, TF2, DODS, CSS, COD#. Should I really need to buy corsair dominators or will regular XMS suffice? I don't think I'll be doing any OC'ing...yet. I figured that is what dominators are really mainly good for. Putting aside the OC'ing ability of dominators , I figure dominator and xms perform the same. No?

XMS3 is more than suffice for normal overclocking/non-overclocking...
The Dominators are required only if you are planning for extreme overclock...

I agree, XMS3 DDR3 will be fine. Tri- Channel of course.

A set of 1600 is a good choice as it will allow you get a great OC. You can do at least a 200 BClock using the 2:8 divider.
