Hey, I'm looking to buy a new monitor in the near future and I'd like some opinions from the TH community. The main purpose of this monitor will be gaming (Im looking for something 22-26 inches). My budget is 550$ or less. Thanks!

Old advice is good advice if it`s passed down, and this has been; Go to your local computer stores and SEE the monitors in use.
No amount of reviews, no amount of opinions, will replace actually seeing the unit in use.

Its funny Im searching to find the same sort of monitor for my brother. When I got mine about 2 months ago I came across a acouple pieces of info that might help you. First the two most important things are a low response time and high contrast ratio. Beware of anything that states like 2ms GTG Response time. That is NOT a true 2ms response time. The GTG stands for Grey to Grey and does not tell you the true response time. Second, DVI and HDMI should be inputs as they are the most current and commonly used. When I got mine it came highly recommended as one of the best for the money: The Samsung SyncMaster 2232BW (22" ) I hope this helps some.
