Hello,
I have a toshiba 60gb laptop hard drive, model MK6021GAS. The motor is squealing and vibrating, so I assume it is seizing.
I beleive the data is secure, so am wondering if there is a way of changing the motor itself, or do I need to go the data recovery route?

Not without a clean room and a (presumably) a spare motor or spare drive.

The platters are mounted onto the direct-drive motor spindle as far as I know. Total stripdown .

Not feasible working on your kitchen table at home.

Get your data off to a DVD or (external ?) hard drive.
