Hey , I can't believe that I'm into Computers and didn't find this website earlier .... I mean this is a very good and helping website ... So I have a question :>>>

the intel P45 motherboard supports both DDR2 AND DDR3 memory .. the limits of memory are 8gb for ddr3 and 16gb or 12gb for the DDR2 ... So if I want to but a pc what should I take 12gb ddr2 or 8gb ddr3 ??

Ok , you'll be like " It depends on what you need and what you do" , I almost do everything , Gaming , video editing , watching movies ...... I just need a fast system that wont get stuck or crash...and i sort of like the ideaof having huge memory for the pc ....

Well before we say the amount of memory you need, just give us the rest of the specs you want in your PC because that decides what RAM you need...

A general suggestion though...If you are using P45(LGA 775), then there is no use going with DDR3...those chipsets cannot utilize the DDR3 speed...The max memory speed that they can utilize is DDR2 800MHz...
DDR3 is for majorly the X58 chipset(i7 CPU) and the AM3(P II CPUs)...

I doubt you would actually need 12gb or even 8gb of RAM, there is no performance benefit of having that much. Plus if you have 32bit OS you wont be able to use more than about 3.25gb. Tom's recently had an article with some really interesting tests they found that 3gb provides the same performance as 12gb.
