Hi there,
I recently bought 8GB of DDR3 1333 ( Crucial CT2KIT25664BA1339 ) for use in my Q6600 system.

I was going to buy a Q9550 and use parts to build a second PC based on the Q6600. Now I wonder if I should just move over to the Core I7?

It would only cost €100 extra to do so if I could use three sticks of my ram for tri channel mode.

Anyone know if that is possible or would I have to buy specific tri-channel ram? Any other opinions on an upgrade path would be welcome!

Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz
MSI X48C Platinum
8GB DDR3 1333
Powercolor 4870x2 2GB

Found the answer here: http://icrontic.com/articles/what-is-tri-channel-memory

"It is important to keep in mind that tri-channel is not a feature granted to memory modules. Rather, tri-channel capabilities are strictly governed by the chipset featured on a motherboard. In theory, any three modules of an identical speed and capacity will properly function if paired in a tri-channel configuration on any chipset that supports this feature."
