hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time booting my system up. During startup, it loads my rams, HDs, dvd drives, and then freezes. I try getting into "setup" (w/ Delete) before the system starts detecting my drives, but my keyboard the computer dont seems to respond to my keyboard. I have tested my keyboard and other keyboards too, so dont think the problem is there (USB, PS2).

Recently, I removed the battery and reset the CMOS (while unplugged). When I start it up again, my drives load, and then the computer detect the CMOS resetted, which is typical. The last message that appears is something like this "Press F1 to run setup" and "Press F2 to load default setup". Again the computer cant detect the "F1" or "F2" command. While the system load, I have my XP CD in my dvd drive and a bios bootable diskette in my floppy drive, hoping it will detect one of them and run it.

The funny thing is yesterday, I try some combination of removing the floppy and/or XP CD and I was able to get into setup. I saw that my boot config was on floppy only. I add my DVD drive as the 2nd config. I didnt see my hard drive, saved it, and restart comp. Without pressing any key, system loaded (user login..desktop...etc).

I then restarted the comp and system loaded again...comp fix?...idk. On my 3rd restart i decided to run "Setup". Go to my boot config, and this time I saw my HD. Place the HD as my 1st boot device, dvd rom as 2nd and floppy as 3rd. Restart, and computer freeze again (similar to what I describe in 1st paragraph).

I retried my XP-CD/floppy method, and nothing happens, cant get into "Setup". I think it was more luck than anything else. I have no clue what is happening. My PS, hd, dvd, rams, seems to be working fine. I really believe its the bios as it just freezes after loading my drives. But that doesnt explain why the comp wont allow me to get into "Setup".

If someone knows an answer or a way to troubleshoot, please help. The comp is pretty old, but i dont use it for anything other than email and surfing the net. I plan on getting a new one when W7 comes out. I dont think its the motherboard, as i was able to load windows and use it before i decide to restart the computer again......Guess I should've learn that when dealing with electronic if it's not broken, dont fix it.

Oh yeah, during bootup, the message "floppy controller fail (not detected)" appear on the screen. Idk if this is a problem.

Thanks in advance......Neo
