im looking into buying a new gfx card, and because of the current economic state i dont want one that drinks too much juice.

Right now i have a bfg 8800gts 512

ive been looking around at cards that still use only 1 6pin pcie connector, saves me upgrading my psu & saves me money on bills

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=512-P3-N890-AR&family=GeForce 9 Series Family

My question is, would that perform much better than my current card? the tomshardware gfx chart just shows the origional 9800 i beleive, not the "+" version.

Games i have trouble running on full are crysis (can run it fine on all settings set to high, but starts getting choppy when i max everything out) & company of heroes (runs well until i turn on dx10!) So how would that 9800 handle these games?

The 9800gtx+ is an 8800gts 512mb card which is built on 55nm scale has hybrid power, and is capable of tri-sli and is clocked higher than your card, but you can most likely close that gap by OCing your current card. In the end its not worth upgrading as its just a modified version of your card.

In my opinion its generally not worth doing an upgrade for video cards till your at least 2-3 generations behind the current.

Oh and there's nothing out there really that have tamed crysis in my opinion and it will be awhile till that happens.

Im new here. How do you overclock a 8800gts? Do you use a utility that lets you change the clock speed? An overclocked 8800gts would be perfect for me! Tell me more ...tell me more : )
