I can\'t access the restore point on my XP. It says computer cannot be restore

I have tried and tried again to keep a restore point. It shows up but says: cannot restore to this point. I happens even when it's bee only a day.

many times the restore point won't work. Have you tried an earlier date, look for a date in bold numbers.
If the restore won't work, you can still do a repair install of the operating system. This does not erase your files.

i have tried all of that. I don't know what a fire extinguisher is on the computer. The only thing I have been able to do is a factory default.
