My dvd-rom that came with my windowsxp2000 pro says it is not installed?door to rom won't even open How do I get it back had recent crash that PC guy fixed but now drive says it is not connected?? please help

It is a common problem for CD DVD drive to become corrupted, as far as software is concerned.
However, the fact that the drawer will not open is not a software problem, and I would look here first.
The drive may not be connected to the power supply, or the drive itself may be damaged or defective.
Once you get power, and the drawer opens, test again. If the disk is not recognized in the drive by windows, that is the corrupt software problem.
