So I've bought the HIS HD 4850 and stripped the stock cooler. This is what the card looks like without the cooler

Now the aftermarket cooler I bought is working fairly well but as you all know, the 4850 runs very hot. With the stock cooler it would idle around 70c and at 80c+ on full load. Of course this was due in part to CCC not letting you control the fans, but even when you fixed that, the cooling wasn't much better.

Anyway, the cooler I bought was this.

Now it idles at 40c and rarely hits 70c on full load. However, this is only with a mild 20-25% overclock.

Now it cools the GPU fairly well but the RAM heatsinks are rather cheap and I didn't even have enough. So I'm toying with the idea of buying a combination of new copper heatsinks and keeping some of the old ones.

The new heat sinks work on some of the RAM but there isn't enough clearance on others, Due to the cooler. Would the combination be a bad idea? Airflow is great in the case so I figure I just need a path for the heat to travel out to the air.

Also, what if I added heatsinks to the back of the card, right behind the GPU in order to cool further, since that gets hot as well. Would I have a problem with it getting fried? Any other cooling options and ideas?

The copper heatsink options I'm looking at are:

No experience with those, but I would go with:

They are low profile and should stay out of the way of everything else.

Just make sure your case has an intake fan and keep your case closed since an open case can disrupt the follow of air to the proper components.

Ummm a %20-25 overclock is actually quite far say 4870 level the most I have reached is 765, 2400 and that was only for A couple of minutes are you saying you run your card all the time at 750+ ecause theres not much wrong if thats what youre doing. Also if you read reviews of the cooler, people are saying that the TIM is crap so buy some Arctic 9

Yeah I ditched that and used Arctic 9, never expected it to be any good.

Either way, I might have misled with previous question. I run all the time around 700mhz. I have achieved 800mhz but as you can expect, it overheats quite rapidly. I'm attempting to run a 20% overclock all the time, but require the right cooling that isn't water.

If this doesn't work, I can always try lapping =/

Ok well either way, I still need to get some more heatsinks. My main questions is on the placement. Can I mix and match different heatsinks on the same card due to the clearance height of the cooler? Also, judging by the scan of the back of my card, is there anywhere I can place heatsinks to further cool the gpu because the back gets hot as well. I know it will work, it all depends on where I can place them.

Umm Try the HR-11 from thermalright, It is a backside GPU cooler thats needs a 80mm fan, also better heatsinks is a good thing, even if you can't replace all of them.
