I just built a system around a P5Q Pro motherboard. It's a fine board, but when I start up you can hear the system beep in the next town over. My first thought was to just disconnect the PC speaker, but it might be useful to have it. So I'm wondering if anyone knows of any way to quiet the thing down, like cutting the speaker wires and adding resistors.
Yeah, i taped mine and i can just about hear it. Theres a PC Speaker volume adjustment in the onboard sound control panel(?) but it doesnt change a thing. Tape works like a charm
I'm such a lame-o. I tore half the case apart looking for the PC speaker (thinking it looks like, well, you know, a speaker!) until I finally decided to trace the wires and found it right under my nose. It looks like a little black aspirin-shaped thing, which I'm sure they all do these days.
But yeah, the electrical tape worked well. It's down to about 25% of the original volume, or a little louder than the average PC speaker. It's bearable now. Thanks.

Heheh. Better that than F-lock on your first multimedia keyboard though. Even today I feel ashamed when i think about how much time it took me to figure out that its actually there and prevents F8 key from working. You could probably hear my cursing next town over
