My very knowlegdable friend has helped me (more like I've helped him) build a smoking new PC. He's gone for the Holidays and I've hit a snag but don't want to call him over such a possible "easy to fix" subject matter so I'm hoping to find the solution here.

I've jacked with the resolution on the system where the resolution choosen in windows isn't supported by the 46" Samsung HDtv I'm using as a monitor/ TV. So when I applied the setting, I lost video. How do I manage/ navigate through windows with no display to correct my idiotic mistake ???

Please help !

Thanks ~ greg

omg - not necessarily.

Enter Windows "Safe Mode". Press the [F8] key after the BIOS beep..

That will give you a chance to reset the video mode to something you can see on whatever screen you are watching. Once the video mode is set, reboot. Then you can reset it to whatever it need to be.

Safe mode and make your change

Lol, I had an uncle who had kids do this to his computer all the time. He thought he had '1337 computer skillz', and knew that he had to reformat every time this happened because it was an obvious windows crash. I loved it.

Bump for safe mode.

This is killing me. I rebooted to SAFE MODE. Went to Display settings to change. But since I'm in SAFE MODE the display settings are already 600x800 or less.

So I save or apply those settings but when I reboot, still no video. I try to open the Nvideo display manager and make changes there but it will not open in SAFE MODE.

Just a quick update, this is a brand new ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard with the latest I7 1366 socket. My video card is a GX280 and I'm using a Samsung 46 HDtv as the monitor. When the system is booting there is a very cool ASUS bio screen but I cannot see some of the options as they are on the bottom of the screen and just out of sight.

I'm stuck. This is a brand new system and I cannot use it. Its drving me crazy!!!

instead of safe mode, try 'vga mode'. that will enable all the drivers (safe mode does not), but force a lower resolution.

Unfortunately before I got smart and plugged a normal computer monitor into the computer after, on the advice of my brother in law, while in SAFE MODE, went through the device mgr and uninstalled the video card driver.
The idea was a restart and the computer would recognize "NEW HARDWARE" and with default resolution I would reinstall the gx280 video drivers. Didn't work. Now when I reboot, I get nothing. Not even the slick Motherboard Bios Screen.

The good thing is I am now using a nice 26" Samsung Flat Screen computer monitor until I get the system video back up. Any ideas for this "Wanna be fix it yourself computer Newbie ? I'm thinking about going to see a movie before I throw this extremely expensive hardware out the window. Please help !!!

Thanks.~ greg
