I have a ASUS m2n-e motherboard. I am going to install a parallel port connector to my motherboard. The connector is 26 pin female. The connector on the motherboard is 25 pin male, but it doesn't say anywhere in the manual which way I have to turn the 26 pin connector?!?! I know one side is the ground, so I really don't want to screw things up and burn out my motherboard.
On the female end of the parallel port card, there is a black NUB that sticks out (like on the IDE cable), but there isn't anywhere on the motherboard or manual that would indicate which way that should be facing.
Please help on this because I really need to get this up and running.
That is the problem - does go in both ways. I have tried. Following my motherboard manual, it tells me it is the 26pin parallel port. The issue again, it goes in both ways...
Check where pin 1 is on the cable. Pin 1 on the motherboard is clearly indicated in your manual on page 2-29. The manual also seems to indicate that pin 26 is empty.
Ok, I missed that "1" there in the manual, but how can I tell where PIN 1 is on the parallel cable?
I should add, this parallel cable is older, cannibalized from another computer, which might explain why is has 26 female slots instead of 25 like the motherboard - BUT I did notice that PINK streak on the edge of the cable, would have be considered the PIN match to the PIN 1 on the motherboard?
It depends if the old Intel computer and your Asus motherboard use the same type of LPT cable or not. According to this site, they all use the same cable: http://www.directron.com/cbl-combo.html. Therefore trying it isn't very risky.
