QX9650 allows much higher overclocking to 4.2ghz+ air and 4.4ghz water w/ some mobos!

some!!!!!!

nvidia low fsb or asus maximus can not run an E0 q9650 use the qx9650

i beleive the q9650 runs cooler but the locked mutliper limits the overlocking

11x 4000 = 4.4ghz

i shipped 4.2-4.3ghz air cooled qx9650 last year that are 100% stable

q9650? high fsb is an issue for stablity

Obviously the QX9650, but you have to factor in the cost and what motherboard you will be running too. If, as dragonsprayer says, many motherboards have issues OCing this, then it might not be worth it...

It also depends on what you plan to be using it for. The extra Cache and instructions etc... in the QX will benefit you for crunching apps (video encoding, graphics/animation programs and the like) plus it will clock nicely to help with the games side of things. Please ppl correct me if I got this wrong.

I have a QX9650 (was made an offer I couldnt refuse!) and I love it. I have it at 3.6Ghz and have done since I got it. There isn't much call for what I do to clock it higher, YET! (as far as games are concerned I play WoW and the odd FPS and RTS) but a friend of mine has his at 4.2GHz stable on air cooling. Not bad really to get a 40% overclock pretty much for every QX9650 out there.

If you can afford it and your mobo will support it then go for the QX. For reference I use the Asus P5Q Deluxe board (P45 ICH10R) which is excellent and has bucket loads of overclock options.

How much power would the q9650 require over a core 2 e6700 65nm processor? Im looking to upgrade just my processor so i dont want to have to change my psu in the near future.

Also, do the 45nm quads stay at the same temp as a 65nm dual? Can anyone post their yorkfield idle temps So i know whether i dont have to upgrade my heatsink.

Actually, both have the same 12MB cache, as well as the same instructions. The only difference is the unlocked multiplier. Honestly, the qx is better, but not by a very large margin. Unless the cost is identical, I'd go for the non extreme every time.

What voltage, Temp under 100% load, NB Volts are you running? I'm happy with what i was able to setup but I would like 4.4ghz too! But I am not willing to go over certain volts ie. 1.4v

The volts are always off but I'm at 1.35v 100% stable under Prime95
