Basically a usb 2.0 is supposed to deliver speeds upto 480 mbps as per the standards I do not expect the complete speed ofcourse but why does the speed keep reducing for eg if I transfer a 1 gig file the speed shows up around 8 mbps the reduces to 1.5 or 1 mbs by the time the data copy is about to complete (os win 7 ultimate transcend flash drive 4 gb hard disk ata drive 40 gb on computer ram 1gb intel p4 2.8ghz hypertreading enabled)

USB has a lot of overhead for file transfers. You will get nowhere near the theoretical max of 480mb/s. Not sure if 8 is really that bad, sounds a little low.
