Will my CPU bottleneck a GTX 295?

Hey People =D

Just need to find out something, I have a C2D E8400 OC to 3.59 Ghz EP45-DS4P mobo and 4 Gigs of G.skill 1066 RAm. Will this set up bottleneck a EVGA GTX 295?

I play at 1280x1000, will be getting a 20" monitor in a couple weeks. I LAN alot so don't want anything too big =D

Thanks in advance for your help.

More about will bottleneck
  1. no, i do not think it will bottleneck anything, your systems pretty good but maybe you should consider upgrading to a quad first :P and nice monitor btw xD
  2. no
  3. No, your CPU will not bottleneck a GTX 295 but your monitor sure will.
Running such a GPU at 1280x1024, or even the 1680x1050 I assume your new monitor to be, will be massive overkill.
Unless you are running at 1920x1200 or higher, you do not need a GTX 295.

A single 4850/4870/GTX 260 is more than powerful enough for your new monitor and a 4670 or 4830 should give you quite a bit of power on your current display.

Unless you are planning on Folding in your spare cycles, your planned GPU will just be wasting $ and energy.
  4. I didn't go 1920x1200 because I figured I would be able to max out games longer on a smaller display i.e: 1680x1050

I haven't bought my monitor yet, but my card is arriving on Friday! I still have time to change my monitor that I want to buy... Just means I will be having a few more LAN's at my house =D

LOLz, just thinking about it, it is going to be funny seeing the FPS on DOTA with a GTX 295 on a 19". I am guessing somewhere in the region of 600 FPS, unless the engine is capped =(

I only game so a quad isn't going to give me much in the way of FPS, next year I plan on upgrading to I7. Until then I will be working a few more weekends to earn the money =O
  6. Hi JPunisher, I have a ATI 4850 with a Samsung 20", and a C2D E8400 @ 3.69. My system flies with all games so your new setup should kick some.
  7. i dont know if you bought the monitor or if it is 1920x1080 resolution but this wouldnt be bad

that would be good for your gpu, not that big either
  8. Nice Find =D

Good compromise between size and res! Too bad I live in South Africa or I could have put in an order for this baby... Now I need to find one in SA -_- This may take a while
  9. Upgrading to a better CPU so it may run more powerful cards in the future. a c2d is really cutting it close.
  10. ^ yeah, like anyone is going to be able to afford i9 other than Psychosaysdie.
  11.
