I have a dell inspiron 530. I would like to upgrade the mb to a non dell mb. I was told that the oem vista that came with the computer from dell would not work with a non dell mb. Is this true? I can't see why. Please can anyone confirm this?

because your vista system of dell 530 is OEM version.so it can not be used in non dell system.but i heared from the others that you can change your non dell mb's information then it can be used.

i dont think is possible to change motherboard, i mean is possible but you will have to buy a PSU for that because mobo from dell are custom for their system and they miss something that a regular mobo has. and for vista i dont think you will be able to reinstalled in a new motherboard.

Your Dell OS will look for a Dell BIOS. If it does not find one, it will not work.
If you want a new motherboard, you might as well start over from scatch, scavenage what you can from the Dell, buy a new version of windows, a do a complete build.
