I'm putting together a new system and I bought this motherboard
and this power supply

I was surprised to find the mobo has an 8pin 12volt socket. My power supply only has one 4pin connector.
the mobo manual says "Use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12volt power connector is recommended by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extremem Edition CPU (130W)"

Now the CPU I got only needs 65W, so I don't believe I have an extreme edition.

I've seen various opinions on this from other websites and reviews. I have just the one 4pin plugged in and the computer runs fine with two exceptions.
1) Windows 32 bit XP mce only recognizes 2.5 of the 4gb of ram. I know that b/c its 32bit it won't recognized the full 4gb, but another system I build recognized 3.5 of the 4.

2) when I use cpuid it shows the cpu running at 1999mHz.

So after this long post, my questions are;

Is it a bad idea to only use the 4pin 12volt connector? Should I buy a new psu?

Also I do not plan on overclocking anything.

Your fine. Speedstep throttles your CPU @ idle, it will go full throttle when it needs to.

I like to disable speedstep in the bios cause it feels a little laggy to me.

You video card is taking away from your system ram since 32bit only can address 4g of memory.

So I don't need to worry about overloading that 12volt rail.
Thanks.
