Hey guys I am upgrading my old computer and putting in new parts to make it run faster and play games better.

I currently have a AMD athlon 64 X2 5000, geforce 7950 GX2, 650 watt pwer supply, 1GB DDR2, 250 GB SATA 3G hard drive, and a FOXCONN NFORCE 590 motherboard with a 2.0B Chassis (Aurora model from alienware)

I am thinking of replacing:

1) the motherboard with: BIOSTAR TFORCE TA780G M2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
ATI Radeon™ HD3200 Graphics w/ Hybrid Crossfire ($59)

2) the processor with: AMD Phenom 9950 2.6GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor ($165)

3) the video card with: EVGA 512-P3-N975-AR GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card ($103) ( I am thinking of getting two of these so $206)

4) the memory with: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory ($95)

I am also thinking of getting a fan as my 5th item and a nice monitor any suggestions for these two items?

Is this a good system and deal? will my parts be compatible and fit? do i have enough power for my system and what kind of fan will i need?
thanks

can u recommend a motherboard that supports both the DDR3 and the SLI. How much better is the DDR 3 memory that i picked than the DDR2 1066mhz. Also how much better is two 9800 in SLI than one for one monitor? and if the two 9800 are in SLI I can run triple monitors right?

ddr 3 costs much more and gives 1 or 2 % improvement on a good day .

Combine that with there being NO motherboards for Phenoms that use ddr3 and your choice is very simple . Use ddr2. Or buy an Intel processor and board that does

Start picking components with a motherboard . Look at Asus and Gigabyte first since they are the best . Pick the features you want and compatibility with your processor . Look at what memory they recommend

SLI gives varying increases . Sometimes none and sometimes a decent improvement but no where near double . IMO you'd be better off buying ONE more powerful card unless you have too much money

There isn't any desktop AMD processor that supports DDR3, yet. You'd have to wait for AM3 processors.

If you want DDR3, then you'd have to pick up an Intel system.

SLi on average nets you about a 30% increase in performance. I think the latest Nvidia NForce drivers now support multi monitor with SLI, I'd have to verify that.

**EDit** Here is the official SLI and multi monitor: http://www.slizone.com/object/sli_multi_monitor.html
Appears to only work with 2 monitors. HOwever further down you'll see that a 3rd GPU can power a third monitor. You can also have IGP to power the third monitor if you have something like a 750a, 780a motherboard.

I am not seeing why you want to go with SLI. Is there a reason to buy 2 mid-range cards when 1 good card will out preform them in most cases. What kind of games do you want to play? What monitor are you going to use the system on (LONG RUN)? Try looking at Tom's VGA Charts. I picked a random game to show you how small a difference there is with SLI.

I want to use the computer for gaming and also have the ability to have a triple monitor setup. I will not use triple monitors for everything so I would like something that allows the setup but also allows me to combine the power of both video cards when I only want one screen
