EVGA X58

I just upgraded to the EVGA X58 motherboard with the Core i7 920 processor. I have two questions about the motherboard.

1.) How do you change the boot process to a quick boot? Every time I turn on the computer it runs through all of the processes versus a quick boot like on my old MSI board? Can it be changed to a quick boot or is that just how the BIOS work with Core i7 processors?

2.) How do you adjust the memory to 1600? It is still running at 1066 speeds at 1.5v? I looked through the BIOS and they are pretty different from my old MSI board and don't really know what to adjust. I purchased OCZ Platinum 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381 ). My current timings are running at 7-7-7-18 according to CPU-Z.

Thanks for your feedback!! :hello:

I noticed no one had replied and since I have an EVGA x58 (RMA'ed at the moment so I don't have my manual...so plesase bear with me), I will try to help:

1) I don't know. Exlore the BIOS. Some turn off the JMicron SATA ports (the red ones) if they are not using them to get a quicker boot. You do this through BIOS
2) The way I did it the first time was to go into the stock BIOS under stock conditions (no overclocking) and search for the option that is under memory (under voltages on the top of the right hand side?). Change from standard to xmp1 profile. That tells the mobo to talk to your memory and if the memory has an xmp profile in it (my G.Skill did), then it sets up that memory's profile for you after you save & exit the BIOS. At least that's what I read at a memory website. It actuallys works too.

Watch what the xmp1 profile does to your VTT (mine went up +200 & mV are the units I believe). Or you can enter the settings manually including setting the ratio of 2:12 since your BClock/QPI/FSB is 133 and 12*133= 1596 or about 1600. Basically, do manually what the xmp1 did automatically although I got by with only +125VTT and you may not need any additional VTT but if you get a BSOD then you probably do. Whether the OCZ will be easier of more difficult to get to 1600 is unclear but your mobo is definitely rated for that as is your RAM. Since I had no issue getting my DDR3 G.Skill 1600 to run at the rated speed, let's be optimistic.

I love Tom's. But since you are asking details about a specific model EVGA mobo, you may want to try the EVGA forums under the x58sli motherboard and the memory subsections for faster replies. Or do both? Here a couple of links I found helpful:

[I typed these in, so if you get a 404, please just go to evga.com forums subsections and ask your model specific questions].

Good luck
