I cannot really describe it good but it is like a ringing of some sort. I knew the drive wasn't perfect when my brother gave it to me and it wasn't meant to store any game saves or important files, just big games. Then I switched m/b's and forgot I was using my compaq restore disc for my XP install (on my other HD) therefore I used the windows 7 install I put on the 160gb for fun. I was wondering how long do I have left before it decides to fail on me completely? Also I would like a good hard drive suggestion another 160gb+ for around 35-40$

Could last months could last minutes.....there is really no way to know. Hopefully it is a SATA drive? If so then this is one of the fastest 7200RPM ( typical desktop ) drives on the market.

If you have an older IDE drive you are going to pay more for less.
