Hi all... first let me start by saying great forum. I have been learning a lot from you all
but as youll read below I have yet to get all the info I need. Im still reading ;-)

Any how, I finally decided to build a completely new computer (on my limited budget). My current PC is a 2.54 P4 im donating to my mom and dad. After doing what I though was a good amount of research ( I always try to research before I post a million questions) I decided on a Computer with

Motherboard; M3A78-EM AM2+ 780G/SB700 RT
CPU; AMD|A64 X2 5400 2.8G AM2 Black Ed
Memory; G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

Now after reading a bit more I think for just a tad more cash ($2.00 ?) I could buy a AMD Athlon 64 X2 775 BE CPU
that from what Im getting will run faster than the 5400 and it will also support 1066 ram.

Im not in a big hurry to build the PC so should I return the CPU and memory and get the 7750 with some 1066 memory? Also, should I go with a different MB?

Thank you all in advance for any responces.

I miss the old days when you could rate a cpu by its clock speed. Now days there are cpus with lower clock speeds that are faster than cpus with faster clock speeds (at least this is what I gathered)

Depending which G.Skill modules you have, it may not be necessary to get 1066 RAM. Almost all DDR2-1066 RAM is just factory OCed and overvolted DDR2-800.

In terms of processor choice, its a simple one. The 7750 is the dual core of choice at the moment, and for a $2 difference, you will see significant gains, especially if you will be overclocking.

I think I may go with that board. It looks like people are able to overclock it higher.
But then again, I think for the simple task I do, anything over 3ghz is silly

+1 to 7750, good choice, Also, isn't the 5400+ 90nm? Maybe not. I know there are 6000+ CPU's that are 90nm. Go with the 790GX board, if you don't need the extra PCI-E x4 slot. Although I like the Gigabyte board. 790GX + 7750 = almost dragon, lol.

Right on, I was going to mention that if you had plans to OC you needed to get a SB750 board.

Enjoy my friend, your new setup should be nearly twice as fast as your old one.
