New to these forums sorry if this isnt the right area to post. I couldn't find any other place that it would fit.

Ok so im in need of a new system, My current one is well...... old, im rocking the single core / agp / DDR / all the good stuff :D Im looking to build a Gaming PC. I want this one to last me a good long time, and it needs to be able to take a few upgrade's if or when needed. Money isnt too bad so anything under 2k would work. Stuck on a few things, Duel core to quad. Nvidia vs ATI. My friend tells me that AMD works rly well with ATI cards and i wasnt sure if there was something the same for Nvidia and Intel. Im a fan of Nvidia so i want a nvidia card. Ill start with CPU and work down. Im not too new at picking out stuff but i havnt been keeping up so im just alil lost in areas like i said.

CPU : From what iv been reading around i see alot of ppl goin for Intel over AMD. Im fine with intel, my current pc is an AMD but it wasnt very well built. For cores, I was thinking more cores better(?) ill shot for quad but as i read i see ppl say for gaming go for Duel(higher Ghz), if your not one to run 10-20 diff things at once. (Me at most i run my aim and xfire while i game nothing more) But my main concern is, if i get a duel core now. I dont want it to get outdated later cuz game will req more core cpu to play. Soft of how my system is now. Single core, new games are enhanced for multi core so it sucks for me to play them. Also im not one to big on OC stuff, mostly cuz i dont wana mess anything up lol.
My 2nd issue i have is my friend was telling me that If you get a AMD Cpu / mobo and a ATI card that it will work together. Spider, i havnt read or looked much into this at all. so wasnt sure if its worth shotting for,

Motherboard: This ones rly killing me the most atm. I want to get a system and run multi cards, mainly just 2. But im not sure where to turn in lines of chipset. I want an nvidia card, so ill look for SLI. I read that some intel boards support SLI "Awesome" while i look at Nvidia boards i read that they are buggy and not working too well. So im not sure if i should run with a Nvidia chip set board or Intel.

Any feed back or links to forums i can read more on these things would help me so much Thank you. :D

I'll get you started, I am sure you are going to get a lot of advice.
Don't buy a motherboard with an nVidia chipset. What you have heard about them is fairly accurate, you would do much better to go with an Intel chipset.

Since you say money is not much of a problem, build yourself a new Intel i7 rig. They are spendy, but the i7, or socket 1366 motherboards with the X58 Intel chipset will support SLI or Crossfire either one. SLI is reported to scale quite well on these boards as well.

As for what your freind told you, you can run ANY graphic card on ANY motherboard chipset...and they will work perfectly fine. However, in the past if you wanted to run Crossfire, you had to have an Intel P35, X38, X48 or AMD chipset, if you wanted SLI, you had to have an nVidia chipset.

But finally nVidia has seen the light and licensed their SLI technology to Intel for the i7 platform with the X58 chipsets.

Dont buy a nVidia chipset ive had problems since day one with mine, and repeat what i say: Quad core = bad, Dual core = good. Until more games support 4 threads your quad core will be a waste of money unless you are into encoding ( i dunno much about it ). And by the time games support all four of your cores most CPUs nowdays will most probably be outdated.

Ty for the help. This will help me when it comes time to build my PC.

So i can see goin Duel for gaming but with most of the new cpu (that i see) coming out as Quad wouldnt the duel get outdated alot faster then the quad?

If you dont want to spend to much on a Dual core you think will become outdated soon, then you could buy a E8400 its a great CPU and it performs right up there with the extreme quad cores and comes in at a very low price, meaning in a year or two when quad cores start to push dual cores out of gaming then you can upgrade to a quad without feeling as you wasted alot of cash.

What's included in the budget? Do you already have a monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc...

Here's a build that comes in under your budget assuming you already have the above.

Wow ty short this gives me a nice idea on what i should be looking at.

Now i know most of you like intel alot but if i was goin to go with AMD what would i want to look for and go with? the prob i see with AMD is i have to get a Nvidia chip set and it dosnt look like AMD boards have the better nvidia chipsets that intel dos. Im still browsing and read the articles in my spare time. If anyknow has any links to a good one or something plz feel free to let me in :D
