I built this computer years ago and have pretty advanced knowledge on computer hardware. This computer has been used as an office computer for my mom, but she rarely used it. So the other day I go to mess around with it and it would restart at the windows logo screen. I ran a mem test and it found an error so I popped the one stick out and reinstalled windows xp SP2 just for good measure. Everything went well and I thought the problem was solved, but now I get into the windows desktop and it will restart within 2 minutes no matter what im doing. It could just be sitting there and will restart. I swapped out other identical ram of different brands with similar results. I have only installed windows, as it will restart before I can attempt to install or update drivers. The computer never reaches a temperature close to being able to overheat so I know that isnt an issue, and i have tried 4 sticks of RAM independently and it still restarts.
System Spec:
Windows XP student edition SP2
1GB Corsair value select RAM ddr400 pc3200
Radeon 9600xt 128mb
Antec 350 Watt PSU
I do remember when I first built the comp having to change some AGP settings in the bios cause of crash issues, but I don't remember what it was I changed. From what I remember (5 years ago) this isnt the same issue? maybe it is...
Any thoughts?
