I've installed a Hyper 212+ with arctic silver 5 on my i7-930, at stock speeds.
After running prime95, my core temps, according to coretemp, are 79,78,74, and 74 degrees C.
Did I misinstall my cooler, or are these temps appropriate?

okay it seems that your arctic silver paste is still not evenly spread. also cpu cores do tend differ in heat. So maybe that core is just generally going to be hotter than the others but in this case STOCK SPEEDS. which means you may need to check if it is defective or not because my cpu is only on stock cooling (i have no money atm) and i am running at 3.2GHz full load at 74 degrees max. There is definitely something wrong there. Try taking all the thermal past off use alcohol swabs to remove it all, then re apply the thermal paste (not to much, more like a pea size dot in the middle then spread). Then chuck on your heatsink MAKE SURE IT IS SCREWED DOWN TIGHTLY AND EVENLY (say five rotations one screw then the other then the other) if you are having trouble then refer to youtube for installation.

Goodluck
