Hello, my 1st post here :P and my 1st time building a pc, well not yet, i havnt bought anything, i need help buying some parts, i came up with a list of few things, the site im buying from is https://www.compuvest.com, i dont live in USA and this ships worldwide, if you know a better place plz tell me :D

for the case i want to buy ThermalTake Armor+ Full Tower Case No PS w/ Window & Liquid Cooling VH600LBWS
i know nothing about Liquid Cooling and i thought i should get something that already has that = $401.80

for videocard i want to buy 2GB VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Crossfirex Ready (Dual Link) Dual DVI HDTV 900250 i saw some review of this and i think VisionTek card is cool = $588.25

for the CPU 2.83GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 1333MHz 12MB LGA775 EU80569PJ073N = $336.08

power supply ThermalTake Toughpower 1200W Power Supply (Black) W0156RU the 1200W cuz i cant make up my mind :P im just worried that i might get in trouble and it wont be enough, and if i wanted to upgrade in the future i want to be ready = $356.01

well thats all, im having trouble with the motherboard and RAM, cant decide on something, also i already got a DVD writer and a harddrive from my older pc and im not planning on buying any.

i want to know more about computer parts and all that and i think the only way to do is to build my own.

any of you fine people want to help this virgin?
thanks :D

Those are some really great parts. Most of them are very high end. If this what you are shooting for, good job. Best MB out there I know of is the Asus Max Striker. Has everything you can get, with crossfire when the 4870x2 starts to not give the best video. I would be getting some high end RAM, 8GB of Mushkin. Push a big monitor and this will be a steelar rig.

hi... i think for the money u are willing to spend on ur computer, i feel tat u shuld take a serious look into the core i7 ....

nowadays u can find a lot of gud feature rich boards also to compliment the cpu...the core i7 920 is around 300 bucks and is far more powerful than the q9550.... so i feel u shuld go the i7 way...

if ya interested then i can come up wit a pretty decent config that will fit ur budget as well be more powerful than ur current config....

Reply to gkay09

thanks gkay09 that would be cool
my budget is about $2150ish

Reply to madfilter

oh sry forget to say that harddrive and DVD already got them and not planning on buying new ones

thx again

Reply to madfilter

does the budget include monitor, OS, KB and Mouse? If it is just for the main things you list, that will be one awesome build

Reply to alcattle

only the OS everybody saying vista 64 will run games better i dont know, and yes only the main things

the mobo-

ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $300

the ram-

Keep the psu and the gfx card.... as for the case i think u should search for gud deals....for nw u can skip the liquid cooling as the i7 doesnt need extreme cooling... u should be able to find very good air cooling for the new socket..

Be careful while buiying the air cooling unit cos the mobo is a lga 1366 and nt the old 775 so its a lil bigger...so see if the cooling unit fits onto the mobo...am sure u can find the retention modules and a gud air cooling unit for a gud price...

am pretty sure with these components u wont blow the roof of ur cash limit...

All good choices, gkay. I could not find the right RAM on the Compuvest site. It is new so maybe call. They do have some Corsair so it should be ok.

And i think even newegg ships worldwide ...u would have to call them and book the parts and they will ship it to any place...but the price on the website u have given is also low compared but take care that the company is a gud one...

Reply to gkay09

thanks guys so much, but newegg said on the website they do not ship worldwide :( (..yet)

so the thermaltake armor and liquid cooling is not good for me? i should go for another? i saw some good reviews for that case somewhere

also on wikipedia it say the Core i7 is not good for gaming unless im using crossfire

and for rams, how about the Kingston?

thx again

lolz it is said its nt gud for gamin cos there is less improvement over the core 2 quads but to be realistic i think the core i7 will be a very gud and far better than the cpu u have selected....
So dont think that the i7 will underperform in games...the difference will be less but will beat the q9550....and tat too with the 4870X2 u will have not problems on the gaming front...
Te i7 will be grt for multimedia apps too...

And as for the case, don go liquid for nw and tat too u said u are nt much aware abt liquid cooling so jus stay away frm it...

There are gud cases jus google around and am sure u will find a gud 1....

Reply to gkay09

and where are u frm ??? i think if u can look around u mite find retailers frm whom u can buy those products...

Reply to gkay09

thx :D sry im a noob
ill look around for another casing, i really hate those new cases with flashing lights, so anoying :P cant they just make a good case without all the neon signs on it?

Reply to madfilter

The CPU change means you have change the MB and RAM.

Reply to alcattle

ah yes!! thx

Reply to madfilter

ok im going with (Kingston 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR1333D3K3/6GR)

Reply to madfilter

you need to use DDR2. get 2 sets like these Kingston Hyper PC6400

You will want a LGA775 MB like thisGigabyte

Reply to alcattle

how come DDR2 and not 3?
thx

Reply to madfilter

DDR3 is very overpriced still, I7 will only run on DDR3 RAM. Otherwise it adds nothing to a system

Reply to alcattle

i c, thx alot
so stay away from the DDR3, got it! but u think the power supply is a good choice?

so thats it? just get the Kingston Hyper PC6400 and the Gigabyte motherboard and im set? YAY!!!!

Reply to madfilter

will the power supply and the motherboard allow me to add another VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 in the future? and thx alot for all the help :D

Reply to madfilter

how about i got with this (8GB (2x4GB) DDR2 PC25300 667MHz 512x72 240pin ECC FB-DIMM CL5 Kingston KVR667D2Q8F5K28G KVR667D2Q8F5K2/8G) ? ill get an 8gb of rams instead of 2gb right? it will work on my motherboard?

Reply to madfilter

ok nvm i found a fan for the core i7
http://www.compuvest.com/Desc.jsp?iid=925996

will it work? thx

Reply to madfilter

case = ThermalTake Spedo VI90001W2Z w/ Window Full Tower Gaming Case (Black)

Motherboard = Gigabyte Motherboard Core i7 Intel X58 DDR3 Crossfirex & 3-Way Sli Avg GBE ATX GAEX58UD5

CPU = Intel Core i7 Processor i7-920 2.66GHz 8MB LGA1366 CPU OEM AT80601000741AA
didnt find a 3rd party fan on the website im buying from so ill just use the fan that comes with the cpu

Ram = 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz 240pin CL8 Triple Channel Memory Kit WA133UX6G8

Video card = 2GB VisionTek Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Crossfirex Ready (Dual Link) Dual DVI HDTV 900250

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/ [...] 009270.jpg

well here it is :D i have yet to install all the cables and all that and the power supply too (BFG 800w), does it look like i attached everything right so far?

but there is a problem, i thought they would inclued the intel fan but they didnt  no i have no cpu fan, i looked everyone in my country and didnt find any at all

now i have this powerful machine and cant use... unless... :bounce:

i have a thermaltake fan from my older pc
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/ [...] 009275.jpg

i cant attache it to the motherboard but the buttom of the fan fit perfectly on top of the cpu, its a big fan and worked well in the past, but i guess even if it didnt fit all of the surfece it will still work ok cuz the intel fan never did, and im not an overclock person anyways :P

so any crazy ideas? :pt1cable:
