Bootable / Active External HDD

I would like to know if I can use my external 500GB HDD as OS boot ? I mean I want to install the OS in it and boot from the external USB HDD. Any recommendations ?

  1. You can, but internal HDD Sata is better option for bootable drive.
  2. Yes you can if your computer supports booting from usb. The os on it, expecially windows, will only be bootable on that computer though.
Speeds will be slow though so don't expect much from it.

Go into the BIOS and check with the boot device priority.. If USB HDD (or something like that_ is listed as an option then YES, your notebook mainboard supports USB boot.. In case you get confused with the options there, post all the options here and we'll look into it..
  5. Thank you for all your input's / suggestion. I found the notebook can be booted from USB.
