I am going to be building a system and was wondering if it was a good idea to use a 30GB SSD for windows 7. I know it will decrease boot times and such but I am hesitant because I have heard so much about how SSD's have short life spans, how long will an SSD last as a boot drive? Also, if the OS is on the SSD, will it make the whole system faster or just the boot times?

Which 30GB SSD? Imo, unless you plan to get a QUALITY SSD don't bother. For an OS drive, 4K random read/write is what really matter. Sequential R/W doesn't matter much.

Any/most programs + files stored on a SSD will open/load faster.
