Hey Group,
I` have a NEC Pocket PC 2002, to which I would like to have GPS on, this
little machine has a PCMCIA slot on it. Could anybody suggest some GPS
receviers and software? More to the point can this machine handle GPS?

I don't know your machine but it is possible to get Compact Flash units
which fit into a CF slot- this is the only way I seem to be able to use GPS
on my pda. The downside is you can't use a memory card for maps unless you
have one of the pda's that support 2 memory types.
The most common connection seems to be via a null modem serial cable to
handheld units- can you get a serial cable for your pda? (I can't find one
for my Asus). This would open you up to a lot of handheld GPS units. If you
are going this route you need to know the communication standard supported
by your intended program and the GPS unit- NMEA seems the most common but I
recently saw a post where it seems the handheld may not support this
standard- check before you buy.
Although it is one of those hotly disputed areas the most popular makes seem
to be Garmin and Magellan. There are others.
A search engine will help you find suppliers in your area/country.
Your header seems to indicate you are from the UK. Maplin hold some GPS
things, but there are other sources. I bought my unit from a shop supplying
outdoor stuff- camping etc. Try putting gps in the search box
http://www.maplin.co.uk/ But there are bigger ranges available.

There are quite a few people that have PDAs with GPSrs on them and would
also be able to tell you what works for them.
