Hi,

I'm planning a new build (~$1500) to replace my aging Athlon 64 machine. Here's what it looks like so far:

Intel Core i7 930
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Mobo
Radeon HD 5830
Corsair XMS3 6 GB DDR3 1600
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB

I'm in the process of choosing an aftermarket air cooler (I plan on OC'ing the i7 to ~3.8 GHz), and I'm probably going to go with the Prolimatech Megahalems (Rev. B).

So, my questions:

1. Prolimatech Megahalems: good choice?
2. 1 fan or 2?
3. What fans?

I've heard a lot of different opinions about the last two questions, and I'd really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks very much!

I've heard of those fans; mostly good things, those I have read some reviews complaining about loudness and lack of 4-pin PWM connectivity. Have you guys experienced any issues there?

Thanks!

Thank you all very much for your input! Just a couple more questions:

1. Static pressure: what should I be looking for?

2. I've heard mixed reviews of the Slipstreams' static pressure. Are they okay?

so when you install 2 Fans on megahalem wich way do you install them ? :D both to blow into megahalem or 1 into intake side(blowing air inside of cooler) and 1 to exhaust( blowing air out of the cooler) side of the case? :F

You install them in a Push/Pull config, which is your second option, one fan blowing into the heatsink, one fan sucking out of the heatsink and aimed towards a case exhaust fan where possible.

Sorry to revive this but I gotta say go push pull.

The Megahalems is a great cooler for anyone that's interested in air cooling.

Been using one since 2009 and I gotta say Prolimatech has very well made products.

Yate Loon D12SH-12 $4 bucks a pop, they're quiet, reliable and rank among the best in cooling. I've been running 2x push/pull on my Megahalems for almost two years now and wouldn't swap them for $20+ fans.
