E8400 temeprature question

My friend has an E8400 cooled by a Zalman 9700 with Artic Silver 5 compound on an Asus P5K Premium board in a CM RC-690 case. The temperatures under load read CPU 42 and the Core 0/1 ~58 (in speed fan) and CPU 42 and the Core 0/1 ~52 (in Everest ultimate). It was my understanding that the cores are always at a lower temperature than what the CPU reads. In addition the difference in the temperature between programs is confusing.

do not worry or is it important

you do not want your cpu really hot, you do not want high difference in idle and max and you want to fall in the normal curve

estimates are estimates and temp is just that

Its not important, the temperatures seem fine regardless, I was just wondering if the core temps reading higher than the CPU temps was normal and in addition the difference between the two core temperature readings in the two different programs.

On my AMD CPUs the core temperatures are always 5-10 deg lower than the CPU temperature readings. This is where the confusion is stemming from.
