Hi Guys,

I was hoping that i am not the only one that is experiencing issues with my
HIS HD 4870 x2 Graphics card.

When i got the card i was blown away by the quality of the shaders and wasn't really very analytical about it.

Then i started to play my games and i first played DeadSpace and i started noticing
that the graphics are very rough as if the AA was set to -4 !!!

I thought may be i am imagining or may be it is the game. So i tried Far Cry 2 , Fallout 3 , NFS Undercover, and GTAIV and all with the same result. I started to freak out.

I was using a 46 Inc Sony Bravia as my display so i thought perhaps it is too much for the card so i plugged back my 22'' Monitor and still getting the same result.

Downloaded the latest drivers ,Updated my Bios...and nothing.

I then read some articles about my CPU bottle necking the GPu which i know is Bull Sh*&t. But i overclocked my CPU & RAM & GPU with the same problem.

I also Changed my OS from VISTA Ultimate SP1 32 Bit to Vista Ultimate SP1 64 Bit and still no difference.

My 3DMARK Vantage Scores are good but the overall AA is terrible its basically unbearable. I will attach a couple of screenshots.
GPU 16000 @ GPU 800MHZ & Memory 900MHZ @ Temp 46 degrees on load [WatercooledEK GPU Block]

I've tried both and still the same issue.

Could i just be unlucky and i just bought a faulty card ?

If i get to return the card i will get a GTX 295 though i've always been an ATI Guy
Had an ATI 9250 Pro Then Ati All in wonder XVE 800 then a HD 3850 and then this 4870 x2.

What make is your 4870 x2 ? do you get any rough edges ?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

That definitely doesn't look like the AA is working. What driver version are you using? My 4870x2 antialiases beautifully with Catalyst 8.11 (it's a Sapphire card)

IS the a way you could send me some screenshots of deadspace on your config or any of the games i've listed please.

I tried to force the AA within catalyst and still having the same issue.

I have tried to use the application settings and it is still the same problem.

Have you used 3dmark vantage ?

In 3DMARK Vantage, in the Jane Nash test are the edges rought during the test ?

I could post a screenshot of it when running on my PC- the edges are very FUZZY.

I would be gratefull if you could take a screenshot " of the scene where she starts running right before she jumps into the water "

very funny that the nvidia card has the same problem on your system, it has me stumped, have you tried a clean install of windows (not a upgrade), the only thing i can think of, is to try it in a friend's computer.

Yes i was initially running on VISTA 32 bit then i installed a fresh copy of 64 Bit,..

Would it be because the 8800 GTS is a weak card..

I'm losing sleep over this :S

Just To Post More Updates on this Issue to help others that may have the same issue.

I have tried My Card in a friends Dell 700 and thee problem was pretty much the same with Both The ATI 4870 x2 & The 8800 GTS.

I then happen to find a demo of Call of Juarez that came with my Card. I Installed it and the results were incredible on both cards.

There was also a Stranglehold demo included, however when i tried it ..the graphics were terrible once again on both cards.

I can to discover that it is a Directx9 Problem apparently most of the games are on directx 9 very few on directx 10.

Any Directx 10 Game runs incredible on the card... Thought the 3DmarkVantage anti aliasing is still present during the DX10 Test but not in the Dx10 Games.

I will install a fresh copy of DX9 on my pc tonight and test the quality again on the Dx9 Games like

Brothers in Arms
Dead Space
GTAIV

>>>>Shame that these games are still on Dx9 and Dx11 is knocking on our door already.

I will keep you guys posted

Okay Guys.

Tested 9.1 new 4870 Driver and a fresh install of the latest DX9.

Results were still terrible on Deadspace ...Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway & GTAIV & STranglehold

Very disappointing. Now unfortunately i don't have a GTX295 to see what Nvidia has to offer on this problem

though an 8800 GTS is still giving the same result.

Probably we just have to live with the crappy outdated DX9 that still runs most of the latest releases.

Very Disappointed.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner - here are some screenshots:
