I have an ASUS A8N-VM CSM

It Supports:

AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64FX / Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64

I currently have a AMD 3200+ that is tired. Not that it matters but I have 2 gigs of ram PC3200, a good PS, and a 9400GT 1 Gig video card. I only play CS source and WOW on occasion.

I'm looking to upgrade the CPU. The ASUS website shows it will support up to the 4800 64 X2 proc. My question is will it support the later versions a well. My thought was ASUS may not update the stats on the webpage. The board is not known for being overclock friendly btu I have seen posts saying it will support up to a 240mhz FSB.

Thanks,
Brian

The best you can do is the FX-60 or the opteron 185. If you can find the 4400+ toledo or better you would see a great improvement over your current 3200+. Check out ebay or even craigslist for available procs. Other than those two sites mentioned you will find it very hard to find anything 939 socket.

Thanks for the reply.

The price of the 64 x2 4800 is only 50ish$ on newegg vs the other options at 150-300$ on ebay. The 4400 is only 40$ shipped on newegg.

I guess my question is, will it take the 5200 5400 5800 or even the 7750 procs? Or will it be over the max bus anyway and be a waste?

All the procesors you mention are socket AM/AM2. Your MB is socket 939 which was discontinued many years ago. new socket 939 processors are hard to find. Check Ragsters suggestion.
