I´m intending to buy a new PC. So, I asked to my pc seller a Core2Duo E4600 one. My pc seller answer me back offering a Pentium Dual Core E5200 and he said that both are the same.

I´ve made a short research at Intel´s web site and found this:

- Pentium Dual Core E5200 (2,5Ghz, L2 2MB, FSB 800Mhz)

- Core 2 Duo E4600 (2,4Ghz, L2 2MB, FSB 800Mhz)?

Are they truly the same thing?

Thanks

In terms of stock performance, yes these are the same. If I were you though, The E5200 is the better choice. Why? because the E5200 is the newer more energy efficient CPU. E5200 is 45nm, and E4600 is 65nm. Though I have a E4400, and its only a bit slower. You wouldn't see any significant gains with these unless you OC (Overclock). E5200, or E7XXX would be your best choice at this point. There is also an E5300. The E4XXX series is the older series. I think the E5200 is sub $100 as well. Hope that helps.
