Bad image checksum shell32.dll

Im running WindowsXP and have a blue screen that says Bad image checksum shell32.dll possibly corrupt and header checksum doesnt match computed checksum. I dont have the XP disc to re-install it, so wondered if there was another way to fix it without?

can you get into save mode and run a Scandisk on your hard drive?

No, it wont let me through to safe mode, goes straight back to the blue screen... :-(
