DirecTV "internation packages" are VERY limited, very FEW languages.
DISH has a half dozen or so separate languages with more package choices
on some of them.
Calling and email DirecTV revealed no plans to add more in the near
term.
These two services are largely equal for an 'arbitrary' viewer, but
on International choices DISH trumps direcTV by miles.
We also picked up NASA channel which for some crazy reason
direcTV never activated for our area, and a number of specialized
academic/science channels that might prove interesting.
(I am more of an info freak than a sports fan so any difference in
sports is pretty much irrelevant to me beyond the basics.)

I watch NASA on DirecTV all the time......it does require the use of a
multi-satellite dish (oval). It is located on channel 376.I do not know
why Dish Network enthusiasts persist in the false notion that it is not
available on DirecTV.

The channel was allocated for us on DirecTV but nothing ever
appeared on it in our market/region. NASA just wasn't available
here, and I never heard a reasonable explanation.
It just works on DISH which was not a big deal to us, but we
did care.
My wife just returned from a trip, and after taking one look
at DISH was much impressed with the much better picture
versus direcTV.
