Ok i had a thread on which gtx 260 to get and uhh well i stumbled across a 9800gx2 for $250 @ the egg.
i heard i suffers from microstuttering etc. if its bad ill return it. which will give me better frames? 9800gx2 or gtx 260? gta iv, cod4 & 5
thank you
I mean AA and higher resolutions the 9800 GX2 is killed. That card is also from what I've seen not even supported for drivers other than monthly drivers...and it wastes alot more than the 260 GTX and runs alot hotter...plus Overclocking is alot better on the 260 GTX.
Check some benchmarks. I mean I went from 8800 GTS 320 sli to 9600 GT sli to 9800 GX2 to 9800 GX2 quad to 260 GTX tri to 280 GTX tri to 285 GTx tri
Each a better experiences than the previous other than Quad sli which owned me...even in a simple game like counter strike source.
Although the difference between the 260s and 280s at the time was minimal...but later when AA was increase was alot smoother on the 280s...like Crysis.
he has 1...not only that but for some reason dual GPU cards have min frame rate problems. Don't forget that Average frames isn't always the win, sometimes min frame rates are more important.
I would rather have 40 fps and then amin frame rate of 35 than avg frames of 60 and min frame rate of 35-40.
the bigger the plumet of frames the more you notice the screen tear.
Single GPU power is always a better solution...the only thing is that 2 260 GTXs are weaker than 1 295 GTX.
Don't get me wrong its a good card, but for some reason 2 260 GTXs get a higher min frame rate than the 295 GTX even though the 295 GTX has a higher avg.
Like I said look at the results and see which ones ur more comfortable with, remember if you buy evga or bfg 260 GTX you can always upgrade to the 295 GTX if you don't like it.
I own a 9800GX2. I would go with a 260 over it now due to the fact its entirely driver dependent. I suspect the 295 will end up with the same exact issues as it starts to get older...
Well they were better cards, not only that they drained less power and pumped alot less heat in my case I came out even since I sold the 8800 GTS 320s for about the same price I bought the 9600 GT Ocs.
