Files Extraction problem with freearc, please help me.

I've got some files from my friend, these files are Compressed and are in .arc format, he told me to extract it with Freearc .But whenever i tries to extract it, it seems to get struck at 0.00% yes.Just it extracts about 600Kb and the total size of files are about 3GB. Any help will be most appreciated and i anybody knows any other program for it please do inform it to me.

7zip isn't working any other software.By the way its giving error"unable to open file" could this mean that the .Arc folder contains error(But Freearc is able to open it).

7zip surprisingly working As i Shifted to windows 7 thanks for this advice.
