this is my first time building a computer. on a tight budget $250 max the wife will let me spend. im going to reuse my psu and videocard from my current computer. my question is does this compter look like it would be a good gameing pc? and would be good for some overclocking?(still a overclocking virgin) so this is what i have picked up

already have

500 watt psu
stuff im planing on buying
APEX SK-503-C Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor - C3 Revision Model HDZ555WFGMBOX
total price $243
and some ram im getting with my staples gift card

Hi man,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846&cm_re=555-_-19-103-846-_-Product
is your current chip at 99 dollars on the egg,
I'd suggest
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103723&cm_re=amd_x3_435-_-19-103-723-_-Product

save 30-odd dollars and possibly have a quadcore chip, if not the 435 is still a nice clockable chip and will cover 3.2Ghz no problem.
and is that ram, 4Gb 2x2Gb total? or 2Gb total?

You dont say what Op system your planning on using but I'd say put 4gb in there for Xp,its more than the Os can use but not massively over the top, if your going for a 64bit Win7, youll need a minimum of 4Gb and looking to have more as you can afford.

ill be running windows 7 64 , and it will be 4gigs of ram to start with.in the future would like to have 8 gigs of ram with some ***ass videocard.

with a new videocard and 8gigs of ram and if i could unlock all 4 cores on the x2 555,would i be able to do max settings on modern games (cod mw2 bio shock2 crysis ect...) with good frame rates?

thanks for your replies greatly appreciated !!!!

Yeah, that all depends on what video card you buy in the future.
As far as the CPU handling games, you'll want to OC/unlock so it doesn't bottleneck some "***ass" video card but it'll do fine. :)

Just a few graphs from Tom's, but this gives you an idea of what you're dealing with:
